UB Athletics Auctioning Off Unique Helmet Collection

With the NFL Football season concluding this week with Super Bowl Sunday, we have a unique opportunity for Bulls fans to win an exclusive, one-of-a-kind Super Bowl memorabilia set from three former UB Football players and NFL Super Bowl champions. Support the Football Excellence Fund by bidding on a set of three autographed helmets, signed by James Starks (Green Bay), Steven Means (Philadelphia) and Demone Harris (Kansas City).  In addition, the complete set will include an autographed picture of each, along with all three official Super Bowl coins.

A member of the 2008 MAC Championship team, Starks ranks third in school history in career rushing yards. He played seven seasons for the Green Bay Packers after the team drafted him in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He was the Packers’ starting running back in Super Bowl XLV and helped Green Bay defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-25.

Means was an All-MAC defensive end for the Bulls from 2008-12. After finishing fifth in school history in career sacks, he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, including 2017, helping the Eagles win their first Super Bowl title in franchise history. He is currently in his second season with the Atlanta Falcons and is the team’s nominee for the NFL Man of the Year Award.

Harris has lived the true underdog story. He originally walked on at UB before earning a scholarship and developing into an All-MAC defensive end. After going undrafted in 2018, he was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and eventually made the team’s 53-man roster. After being released midway through the 2019 campaign, he was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs and was on the team’s active roster when they defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 31-20, in Super Bowl LIV.

The items up for auction were donated by former Buffalo football alum, Karl Fischer (1979-1982).

Auction begins today and will run through Friday, February 5th at 7pm.
